About the Cracks Project

Cracks consist of a book/object, 31 handmade copies, a series of performances and a virtual trans-book. The book-object contains interventions to the material: Hatchet on the cover, x-ray, stitching, photos by crecinosa, all gathered between two covers with engravings and sewn in Coptic technique. Two performances, one in Guatemala city and another in San Jose Costa Rica (This one as part of the tenth Biennial of Central American art).

About the Digital Version

The digital transbook is the work developed by Luis Hurtarte/ uip, in a reinterpretation of the epoetry and the book itself, with intention of transgression.

Cracks is a book or a trans-book about the limitations of language and communication. Parting from the idea that there is just a certain amount of significations that can be referred to, this book attempts to find a crack in the language in order to obtain access to unknown significations. This is not an easy task and the book makes it clear. It confronts us with the frustration that comes with the senseless struggle.

This project was developed with the intention of finding an ideal way of portraying the main idea behind the book: the limitations of language and communication.

The text is mapped into the surfaces of a dodecahedron . This dodecahedron contains a group of cores in its inside. Each core represents a signification. The user has the option to display the cores. When the cores are displayed. The words in the surfaces get connected to the individual cores. This exposes how ultimately all the texts are referring to a limited amount of significations or meanings, and how it is not possible to escape them.

About the Author of the Text

Oho is the current graph used by the artist who in more than ten years has used different ways of being named. This resistance to the name is already part of the proposal, renouncing the parcel of prestige that is acquired by building a name. This graph does not name or refer, let’s say someone, who during these years has been dedicated to poetry, philosophy, book- object and performance, trying to erase the barriers that delimit each of these narratives.
